Ukrainians advance 16-20 kilometers in ‘tactically significant’ move. Ukraine made a “tactically significant” advance along two lines of attack towards the southern coast, according to Russian and Ukrainian sources.

Ukrainian forces entrench near Robotyne, conduct counter-battery fire. Ukrainian forces had “partial success” around Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, fortifying the territory they liberated and conducting counter-battery fire, according to the General Staff.

Maliar calls for calm about news concerning Ukrainian attack across Dnipro. Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar sought to tamp down speculations about a Ukrainian raid across the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast. “There are no reasons for excitement. I just returned from those places,” Maliar wrote. “Yes, certain units performed a certain task there,” she added.

Russian media report Ukraine’s strike on Crimean Bridge. Multiple Russian media outlets reported Ukraine’s strike on the Crimean Bridge on Aug. 12, as videos showing smoke rising near the bridge emerged online.

Russian proxy claims one more missile targeting Crimea Bridge shot down as more explosions reported. Following Russian media outlets’ earlier reports of Ukraine’s strike on the Crimean Bridge, Sergey Aksyonov, the Russian proxy head of occupied Crimea, said that air defense had intercepted another missile over the Kerch Strait at around 3 p.m. on Aug. 12.

Zelensky: Greece joins G7’s security commitments to Ukraine. Greece has become the 14th country to join the Group of Seven (G7) joint declaration on “security guarantees” for Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Aug. 12.

Minister: Ukraine allocates $225,000 to fund 15 ‘revolutionary’ defense tech products. Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced on Aug. 12 that Ukraine has allocated $225,000 to fund 15 “revolutionary” defense tech products.

Russia says it intercepted drone over border Belgorod Oblast. The Russian Defense Ministry reported on their Telegram channel that it had intercepted a drone attack overnight on Aug. 13.

Russian media: Fighter jet crashes in Kaliningrad Oblast. A Russian fighter aircraft Sukhoi Su-30 crashed in the country’s westernmost Kaliningrad Oblast on Aug. 12, Russian state-controlled TASS media outlet reported, citing the military.

Report: Russia replicates Iranian drones, using them to attack Ukraine. A report from a weapons research group indicates that Russia has started making copies of attack drones obtained from Iran in the previous year and has been using them against Ukraine.

Mediazona confirms identities of over 30,000 Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine. Through open source research, Mediazona, a Russian independent media outlet, together with BBC Russia, confirmed the names of 30,003 Russian soldiers who had been killed in the past 17 months of the full-scale war. The media organizations carry out a name-by-name count of the dead.

Governor: Russian attacks in Kherson Oblast injure at least 2. Russian troops have been shelling Kherson Oblast since the morning of Aug. 12, injuring at least two civilians, the regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported.

Minister: Russian forces hit Orikhiv with guided bomb, killing 1, injuring 12. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko wrote on Aug. 12 that Russian forces struck the city of Orikhiv in Zaporizhzhia Oblast with a guided bomb, killing one person and injuring 12 others.

Governor: Russian forces shell Kharkiv Oblast, killing 1. A 73-year-old woman was killed by Russian shelling in the Kupiansk district of Kharkiv Oblast, Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported on Aug. 12.

International response

Media: Germany’s Rheinmetall to deliver Luna drone system to Ukraine. Rheinmetall, Germany’s automotive and arms manufacturer, will deliver a Luna New Generation drone system to Ukraine by the end of 2023, Bild am Sonntag reported on Aug. 12, citing company sources.
