Russia’s war against Ukraine

Air Force: Ukraine downs 25 out of 38 Russian missiles on Jan. 14. According to the Air Force of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Ukraine downed 18 cruise missiles, including the Kh-101/Kh-555 and Kalibr missiles, launched from the air and the sea. Seven Kh-59 guided missiles were also shot down, the report said.
Moldovan Interior Ministry: Missile debris found in border region. Moldova’s Interior Ministry said a police patrol found part of a missile near the village of Briceni, northern Moldova, close to the Ukrainian border. This is the third time a missile has fallen in Moldova since Russia started launching mass missile strikes against Ukraine on Oct. 10.
Energy Minister: Russia’s Jan. 14 mass missile strike hits energy infrastructure in 6 oblasts. According to Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, the attack caused emergency power outages in most of Ukraine’s regions. President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Kyiv and Kharkiv oblasts have been the most impacted by Russia’s mass attack against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on Jan. 14.
Governor: Russia’s morning missile attack damages 28 residential buildings in Kyiv Oblast. No casualties were reported in the morning attack that Russia had launched before unleashing a nationwide mass missile strike on Ukraine later in the day.
Russia shells Sumy Oblast over 60 times on Jan. 14, injures civilian. The Russian military shelled several communities close to the Russian border 63 times on Jan. 14, Sumy Oblast Governor Dmytro Zhyvytskyi said in a Telegram post. Russian forces fired at the Shalyhyne, Khotin, Esman communities with mortars and artillery over the past 24 horus, Zhyvytskyi reported.
Russia cancels prisoner exchange planned for Jan. 14. Russia “canceled” an agreed-upon prisoner swap with Ukraine, which was meant to take place on Jan. 14, reported Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Vasily Nebenzya, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, responded to Ukrainian proposals for a peace summit on Jan.13 with a series of false claims framing Ukraine as an aggressor that was “about to attack Moscow.”
Foreign Ministry: Zelensky wants to visit UN on the eve of Russia’s full-scale invasion anniversary. President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to visit the United Nations headquarters in New York to address the General Assembly on the eve of Feb. 24, First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova told the Associated Press on Jan. 14.

Ukraine’s intelligence: Russia preparing for ‘long-term war.’ Russia’s efforts to reorganize its defense industry and the abrupt appointment of a new commander to oversee the war in Ukraine show that Moscow is preparing for “a long-term war,” Ukraine’s intelligence said on Jan. 14.
Media: Turkey ready to push for local ceasefires in Ukraine. Turkey is ”willing to push for local ceasefires and small localized de-escalations,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said on Jan. 14, as quoted by Hurriyet Daily News.
Dnipro strike
Zelensky on Russia’s deadly strike on Dnipro: ‘We will find everyone involved in this terror.’ In an address on Jan. 14, President Volodymyr Zelensky honored the memory of those killed in Russia’s latest attack on Dnipro.
Update: 20 people killed, 73 injured in Russian strike on Dnipro. Russia’s attack on an apartment building in Dnipro on Jan. 14 has killed 20 people, including a 15-year-old girl, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Valentyn Reznichenko said in a morning Telegram post. At least 73 people were injured, including 14 children. According to Reznichenko, more than 40 people are being treated in local hospitals.
Official: Over 1,000 people need housing in Dnipro following Russia’s Jan. 14 strike. Around 1,700 people need housing after having been left without electricity, heating, and proper insulation following Russia’s strike on an apartment building in Dnipro on Jan. 14, reported Deputy Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko.
Air Force: Ukraine needs Patriot to down Kh-22 missiles Russia used to hit high-rise in Dnipro. Ukraine’s Air Force Command reported that Russia used five Tu-22М3 long-range supersonic missile carrier bombers to fire five Kh-22 missiles against Ukraine on Jan. 14. They were launched from Russia’s border Kursk Oblast and the Azov Sea. One of those missiles hit a high-rise building in the city of Dnipro. According to Ukraine’s military, radar detected the approximate launch site, altitude, and flight speed. “There is no doubt that it was a Kh-22 missile,” the Air Force Command said, adding that Ukraine has “no firepower capable of shooting down this type of missile.”

Governor: Russian strike kills 1, wounds 1 in Kryvyi Rih. A Russian attack on Jan. 14 damaged a residential building in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, killing one person and wounding another, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Valentyn Reznichenko reported.
General Staff: Russia has lost 114,660 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24. Ukraine’s General Staff reported on Jan. 14 that Russia had also lost 3,104 tanks, 6,173 armored fighting vehicles, 4,846 vehicles and fuel tanks, 2,090 artillery systems, 437 multiple launch rocket systems, 219 air defense systems, 286 airplanes, 276 helicopters, 1,867 drones, and 17 boats.
